The 4 stages to Exhale coffee

Sourcing

First, we took 45 coffees from around the globe that met our strict criteria.

They had to be organic, sustainably produced and processed in a way that scientific research indicated would lead to increased levels of polyphenols and antioxidants.

We taste tested, then independently lab tested them to find our best fit coffee.

The 4 stages to Exhale coffee

Roasting

Badly roasting coffee can destroy up to 90% of its natural compounds. We took the winning coffee beans to the roastery and tried roasting it in multiple ways.

We taste tested, and lab tested again. And found the best way of roasting it to lock in as much of our coffee's natural goodness as possible.

All our coffee is still hand roasted each week on a 12kg Geisen, in Brixton and Bristol.

Verification

Every batch goes through independent lab testing before it reaches you, to check for mycotoxins, moulds and pesticides. Coffee is a crop that's naturally prone to contamination, so we don't take shortcuts on this part.

The 4 stages to Exhale coffee

Brewing

Coffee's compounds can vary immensely from coffee to coffee (studies show up to a 31-fold difference). That’s why we worked so hard to standardise how we process Exhale coffee.

But the final step? Well, that’s up to you.
