exhale - exhale coffee roasters

We're a 'Pending B-Corp', so we take this stuff seriously, very seriously

Driven by science and our team of experts

Imagine a coffee that is delicious, leads the way in sustainability and supply chain responsibility, and whose beans have been selected and roasted to be actually REALLY GOOD FOR YOU..?!. — well this is exhale. A new way for coffee.

Below is an overview of how/why we got to ‘exhale’, our brandname.

You inhale when you are going in to battle. You exhale when you relax and depressurise.

During the exhalation phase of a breathing cycle, the vagus nerve secretes a transmitter substance (ACh) which causes deceleration within beat-to-beat intervals via the parasympathetic nervous system. You can actually hack your vagus nerve by prolonging your exhale and therefore increasing the variance between your inhale heart rate (increase) and your exhale heart rate (decrease). A higher variance is associated with stronger vagus nerve function, lower chronic stress levels, better overall health, and improved cognition.

This is one of the reasons why breathing exercises, especially around the exhale, are recognised and linked to having a positive impact on your health and wellbeing.

We explored the concept of exhale. We were even amused by the connotations that it had with the fact that we were formerly-Hale. But we didn’t want to be held in the past, we wanted to be moving and looking to the future.

The real epiphany came when our also-co-founder Kirsty challenged us on what it was that motivated us all in the first place.

We are all connected by a collective desire to make a positive impact on the people around us and our planet. Our agreed joint mission has always been to lead a revolution in healthy coffee by sourcing and roasting the highest-quality beans and maximise their health benefits and sustainability as much as their taste.

This means we need to control our exhaust. We need to be constantly conscious of our output and impact. Everything we do needs to be focussed on managing what we exhale and making sure it is benefiting all those that we touch.

Our exhale, like for me within the context of Low Inc. (see previous blog), needs to be goodness and love. It’s real and this is it:

We are exhale.

We are a coffee roastery with a unique approach: We value our coffee’s health benefits and sustainability credentials as much as its incredible taste.

Our unique, proprietary process of sourcing and roasting our beans makes us the healthiest coffee on the market.

We provide our customers with complete peace-of-mind that their love of coffee is supporting their health and wellbeing as well as that of our planet’s.

This means you can exhale and relax.

Our brand name makes us accountable. It keeps us constantly aware that everything that comes out of us has an effect on people and our planet. Everything we do is geared towards having a positive impact from cradle to cup. We want this to be the norm. That is why our brand name is in lower case.

Our coffee is bursting with antioxidants. Antioxidants help fight against oxidative stress by replacing the electrons that are lost causing free radicals. Free radicals damage the growth, development and survival of cells in the body.

This means that antioxidants are helpful in cell regeneration and mending our DNA and are linked to supporting our immune system, slowing down the ageing process, and our body’s ability to fight against the most recognised and aggressive of diseases.

At exhale, we have developed a unique process that maximises the antioxidants in our coffee, locks that goodness in through the way we roast and retains the incredible taste of our coffee.

Coffee helps with training and recovery. We are also obsessed with being fit. Part of why we are doing this is to create a coffee that will help us all perform better at whatever level we are at!

We have to do things in the right way. That’s why we believe that ethical sourcing, more-than-fair-trade-deals with our farmers, organic farming practices and the highest levels of sustainability in our supply chain are hygiene factors. We are always learning and welcome being challenged so we can continuously improve.

We hold ourselves accountable for what we exhale

Your first coffee of the day is without doubt one of life’s greatest pleasures. We have a healthy obsession with coffee and those moments it provides.

We source only Speciality Grade beans, and then comparative taste test at every stage of our process to guarantee a sensational tasting cup of coffee.

We also have a very mixed bag of coffee obsessives at exhale so we taste-test to accommodate purists through to milky-coffee lovers.
